James's Story
I moved here from Brownsville Tx in 1961 and graduated from Edgewood H.S. in 1963. All my childhood friends are left behind but will never forget them. I still keep in touch with a few of them. Many friends were killed in the Vietnam fiasco. I was one very lucky fellow; even though I volunteered to go there they did not need my MOS services, radar technician in the HAWK missile batteries. I also have many friends I made here in SA and we still meet once or twice a month. Many of them are from Edgewood and KAFB, Lackland AFB, and San Antonio College. I meet lot of people on the golf course and the bowling alley and they are from different walks of life, some from other countries. I regularly visit the VFW clubs, especially the Fort Sam Houston post 76. There are always very interesting people to meet.
I am fully retired but still keep busy and maintain my health. I am going on 69 but still run the 16 minute mile. I have met some of my life's goals. I completed 4 years active duty (Army) and re...Expand for more
tired from the AF reserves as an officer (Major). Also received certification in logistics & retired from civil service (30 yrs) as logistics officer. I received my bachelors and masters degree from UT and retired from San Antonio College (teaching RN nursing students). I still teach & tutor students who are having difficulties. (Only 12 hours per week). Itâs healthy to keep the mind busy.
I still love to dance Tejano, Salsa Y Merengue and of course the Great Oldies & little bit of Country. I go fishing once in a while and just enjoy reading, especially Texas and nations history. I enjoy and love my new Granddaughter (21 months). I love working the garden, searching genealogy records, listening to soft classical music & sometimes have a glass of wine (Red) or a good German beer. I love life and I am aging gracefully. I have learned to avoid stress as much as possible, it is the worst thing for your health at this age. Best thing to do is stay active & physically fit and mentally healthy.
